One of my favorite Paul Graham essays is the Maker’s Schedule & Manager’s Schedule. Routinely I look at my calendar and review whether I am spending enough time in both aspects.
My maker's schedule is to work deeply on problems that I see happening across our portfolio and I usually write and create guides to solve for them. I do my best to keep meetings to an absolute minimum on these days.
When I don’t pay attention my calendar switches completely to a manager's schedule. My day is divided into hour-long intervals for meetings and various tasks. Constantly switching between different activities and schedule meetings throughout the day without significant disruption.
This current week I let the manager schedule take over my calendar and as I was reflecting on my week with my EA this evening, we intentionally started moving meetings around in the coming weeks to rebalance this again.
